You know I love a good giveaway! This week I’m participating in the Howling Good Hop with a bunch of awesome paranormal romance authors.
I love PNR. I started out reading Christine Feehan and I never looked back. Do you remember the Carpathian series? O.M.G. That’s where I fell in love with paranormal romance. Then I read Marjorie M. Liu and then more!
Right now I have two PNR series, the Hadley Werewolves, and my latest, the Windham Werewolves. Even my first series, Coveted, is about werewolves. A werewolf with OCD who is a hoarder. Nope, I’m not kidding.
Unlike my other series, the Windhams are special. Hadley focuses on three couples while the Windham series focuses on Kaden and Cynthia. Boy did I have fun with them. Like Coveted, the Windham series also gave me a chance to have a romantic comedy spin with a series again. But it isn’t just about the fun. I love exploring relationships in families and how past events affect current relationships. So, how did I plan the madness and what is the Windham werewolves series about?
IN SHORT: A dying werewolf hunter is whisked away to the cold Canadian mountains to be healed by the very enemy she hunts.
Planning the Windham Werewolves Serial:
Wow, where do I even begin? I knew from the beginning that I wanted five episodes. I’ve seen most serials with seven or six, but I wanted to keep things minimal since this is my first serial. I’m a planner when it comes to plotting so I downloaded Lynn Viehl’s novel notebook and I started the process. I write character-driven books so my hero and heroine came first. I knew from the beginning that Cyn was a werewolf hunter and that she was dying. That part was easy. The hero was a bit harder. I knew he was gonna be attractive, the easy part, but I’ve never done a physician hero so I was a bit apprehensive. Coveted required a lot of medical research so I was up for it. Once I had some information on Cyn and Kaden, I plotted out the main story arc and that was the murder of Cyn’s werewolf hunter parents. The main question became who killed them and how did the events that played out affect Cyn and her brothers, who are also hunters. Now that Cyn is in a relationship with Kaden, things become even more complicated since Kaden’s pack have reservations about the hunters.
From there, I had to act like a television producer and come up with each episode. There had to be explosions, family drama, intrigue, and Cyn had to work her darnedest to avoid falling in love with Kaden. That is easier said than done, but I will admit that when I feel good about a book, the family drama seems to get thrown at me. Like real life, we all have dreams and aspirations. When we fail to achieve those dreams, we carry the weight of those failures with us. Even when we believe we’ve recovered and think that those past event no longer affect us. All the while, as Kaden and Cyn fall for each other the episodes must slowly unravel the mystery and bring about revelations for the other members of the Windham clan. Some of them were good and some of them weren’t as good.
I’d love to say that planning out a serial and writing one was easy, but nope, they are hard and the authors that put pen to paper work really hard to make sure our readers experience a fun ride!
